The Canada Year Book Historical Collection is funded by the Canadian Culture Online Program of the federal Department of Canadian Heritage. Statistics Canada is committed to developing a heritage website that presents digitized historical versions of the Canada Year Book from 1867 to 1967. A total of 159 books have been digitized—72 in French and 87 in English. These digitized editions will link to a series of customized lesson plans for teachers.

The lesson plans were created to support curriculum in History and Social Studies. They have been designed to help students use the historical information of the Canada Year Book Historical Collection to bring the Canada of the past to life. The lessons also encourage students to develop critical thinking skills and to research and explore primary source documents.

Information is presented by topic and includes links to supporting tables.

Note from the authors of the lesson plans.
